Woman sentenced after high-speed chase

IDAHO FALLS — A local woman was recently put on probation for engaging in a high-speed chase with police in June.
Earlier this month, Jamie Lee Capson, 38, was placed on three years of felony probation by District Judge Bruce Pickett after pleading guilty to felony eluding and misdemeanor injury to a child. Pickett opted to suspend an 18-month to five-year prison sentence, which she may still have to complete if she violates probation.

Police reports show on June 7, Idaho State Police troopers tried stoping Capson, who was driving at 100 mph in an 80 mph zone on Interstate 15 near Blackfoot. Capson didn’t stop and kept driving north and exited the freeway onto Broadway Street in Idaho Falls.
Police used a PIT maneuver to bring Capson’s vehicle to a stop at Broadway and Houston Circle. A teen was in the car with her during the chase, which resulted in the injury to a child charge.
Capson was taken by ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls and later booked into the Bonneville County Jail for felony eluding, felony injury to a child, and resisting arrest.
In addition to the time on probation, Capson will have to complete 100 hours of community service, complete recommended substance abuse and psychological treatment, and pay $745.51 in fees and fines.
