Cody Heard | Bonneville County Jail
IDAHO FALLS — A welfare check in Idaho Falls led police to arrest a man for trafficking marijuana.
The Idaho Falls Police Department got called to an apartment on Gladstone Street on Oct. 15 around 8 p.m. When police arrived, they could smell the marijuana and arrested 23-year-old Cody Heard after discovering 12.7 pounds of packaged marijuana.
Heard is charged with felony trafficking of marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
When police first arrived, Heard handed over a small amount of marijuana as well as a glass bong when an officer said they could smell weed. However, in the apartment, officers noted several packages of marijuana and a heat sealer for packaging.
Two other people in the apartment were cited for misdemeanor frequenting a place where drugs are used. EastIdahoNews.com is not identifying them because they are only charged with a minor crime.
Heard was booked into the Bonneville County Jail and posted a $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing for Heard is scheduled for Oct. 29.
Although heard is accused of crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
