Trafficking charges against local man passed to federal court

POCATELLO — Trafficking charges against a local man have been dropped by the Bannock County Prosecutors Office, clearing a path for federal charges.
Following a motion by the prosecution, four felony charges against 55-year-old Dannie Lee Rose-Madrid were dismissed on Aug. 2.

Charges of trafficking methamphetamine, trafficking cocaine, grand theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon were dropped, as were two separate persistent violator enhancements. They are now being pursued in federal court, according to Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney JaNiece Price.
Rose-Madrid was arrested on June 1, after officers from the Pocatello Police Department allegedly found him to be in possession of 413 grams of cocaine and 130.4 grams of meth while serving a warrant. Officers also allegedly found several firearms in his home.
Federal charges were filed against Rose-Madrid on July 27.
If convicted of trafficking charges, Rose-Madrid would forfeit all property and proceeds obtained as a result of the crime. He would also face a minimum of five years or a maximum of 40 in federal prison with four years of supervised release following.
Rose-Madrid is scheduled for jury trial on Oct. 12.
