Three vehicles wreck in chain reaction after truck flips on Interstate-84

BURLEY — Three vehicles crashed in a chain reaction after a truck left the roadway, collided with a guard rail and overturned at the intersection of Interstate-84 and Yale Road, east of Burley, on Thursday night. A 25-year-old male from Texas was traveling westbound on Interstate-84 in a Penske truck when he exited the roadway and hit the guard rail at approximately 11:03 p.m. on Nov. 21. The vehicle flipped and came to a rest in the left lane facing eastbound. Due to the Penske truck not being illuminated, a 49-year-old male driving a Hyundai Freightliner was driving westbound and swerved to miss the objects in the roadway that were left by the Penske truck. The Freightliner came to rest in the median. A 33-year-old driving a Wabash semitruck was also driving westbound when he ran over the guard rail after witnessing the Hyundai crash. As a precaution, both the driver of the Penske truck and the driver of the Hyundai were transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital. Interstate-84 at milepost 228 was blocked for multiple hours while emergency crews cleared the scene and investigated the wrecks. The Idaho Transportation Department assisted with traffic control. Idaho State Police was aided by Cassia County Emergency Medical Services and Malta Ambulance.
