BLACKFOOT — A teenage boy is in custody following an alleged hate crime in Blackfoot.
Blackfoot Police provide few details about the incident. In a news release dated April 19, Captain Wes Wheatley says it was an “isolated incident” that happened earlier this month. Two students, whose names were not released, reportedly started fighting.
Police responded and determined it was “most likely motivated by race.”
“(It) did not happen on school grounds or while school was in session,” the news release says. “Hate crimes are serious incidents and are treated as such by the Blackfoot Police Department. The identity of the juvenile suspect will not be released because juvenile court records are not public in Idaho.”
EastIdahoNews.com reached out to the police department for more information about what happened, including specifics about the fight, when and where it occurred.
Wheatley explains that an investigation is underway, and the release of any additional information could “harm” the process.
Those with information about what happened are encouraged to call Detective Mayne at (208) 782-3067.
