Pocatello man charged after allegedly slicing man’s face in grocery store parking lot

Burke Ryan Bailey | Bannock County Jail
POCATELLO — A man police say sliced another man’s face during an argument in a grocery store parking lot now faces a felony charge.
Burke Ryan Bailey, 46, of Pocatello, has been charged with aggravated battery, court records show.
Pocatello Police received a call just before 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 1, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The caller told police that a man they were with had been attacked in the parking lot of a grocery store on the 1000 block of Yellowstone Avenue.
When officers arrived, they spoke with the victim. Police reports show that the victim had suffered an 8-inch cut to his face near his eye.
The victim and a witness told police that Bailey approached a semi-truck the two were in and yelled at them. Bailey mumbled something as he was walking away, the victim said, so he got out of the truck and walked after Bailey.
When the victim caught up to Bailey, Bailey turned around and said, “Take that, f***er,” and swung a blade, according to the victim.
Police reports do not detail whether the victim was treated by EMS or taken to a hospital.
Officers went to Bailey’s home around midnight. When they knocked, a child answered the door and told police Bailey had just left to go for a walk.
Officers positioned near the rear of the home saw Bailey leave through the backdoor and try to leave through the backyard.
After officers stopped him and confirmed him to be Bailey, he was arrested and taken to Bannock County Jail, where he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Though Bailey has been charged with this crime, it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
If he is found guilty, Bailey could face up to 15 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.
He is scheduled to appear in court before Magistrate Judge Carol Tippi Jarman for a preliminary hearing on Monday.
