Pedestrian killed near Idaho after ignoring Utah Highway Patrol’s advice

The trucks involved in the crash. | Courtesy Utah Department of Public Safety SNOWVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — A 48-year-old man was struck and killed by two semi-trucks while walking on I-84 after his car broke down near the Utah-Idaho border on Thursday evening. The man, who has not been publicly identified, reportedly spoke with a Utah Highway Patrol trooper who was working on a crash scene involving a jackknifed semi-truck nearby before he died. According to the Department of Public Safety, the man asked the trooper for a ride into town because his car had broken down a short distance away. The trooper reportedly asked the man to wait in his car until he finished with the jackknifed semi. Instead of returning to his car, DPS officials said the man walked past his car for a couple of miles until he was struck by a passing semi. The driver of the semi-truck reportedly saw the man at the last second and attempted to swerve to avoid hitting him. The man was struck by a side view mirror on the truck and was knocked to the ground. A second semi-truck that was following close behind was unable to stop or see what happened and struck the man.
