Organizations unite to reopen Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen

IDAHO FALLS – The Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen is reopening for service, effective immediately.
The Idaho Falls Rescue Mission, Idaho Falls Community Food Basket, United way and Bonneville County partnered with the soup kitchen to make this happen. The soup kitchen will be open Monday through Friday while the search continues for temporary staff members.
The Idaho Falls Soup Kitchen board decided to temporarily close on Oct. 30 due to unpredictable safety conditions and a steep decrease in available volunteers. The effort to reopen was prompted by a huge demand for its services, according to a news release.

Lunch will be served “to go” style, as it has been the last several months to comply with COVID-19 health guidelines. Sandwiches and other items will be available for those in need until permanent staff can be placed. Lunch will be served from noon to 1 p.m.
The Idaho Falls Rescue Mission has volunteered to serve at the Soup Kitchen Monday through Friday. Weekend lunches will be served once teams are back on the calendar.
The Community Food Basket has provided the majority of the food items needed. Franz Bread in Idaho Falls donated enough bread for volunteers to prepare meals for the next week. United Way purchased the cheese and condiments and is also helping to serve guests.
Idaho Falls Community Food Basket Executive Director Ariel Jackson says she is grateful to everyone involved for getting the soup kitchen up and running again.
The soup kitchen is at 301 South Boulevard in Idaho Falls.
