Fun Farm Bridge just prior to being lifted and removed | Treydon Baylor, EastIdahoNews.com ST. ANTHONY — As of Tuesday, the Fun Farm Bridge in Fremont County has been removed. The bridge has stood since its construction in 1925, but now, 100 years later, it was time to go. The bridge has been a longtime recreation site in the county for swimming, boaters, and fishermen. The area has also been the site of numerous drownings over the years. When asked why the bridge was being removed, Fremont County Road and Bridge Foreman Rowdy Rigby said the primary issue was the bridge’s age. “(There is) too much liability, potential for lawsuits,” Rigby said. Rigby added that a small replica bridge and an information board to honor the old bridge are being considered and will most likely be installed in the park and parking lot next to the bridge. Community members gathered to watch the bridge’s removal on Tuesday afternoon. A new two-lane bridge will be put in at the former bridge’s location. Like the original, the new bridge will connect Fun Farm Road and East 700 Road North, spanning across the Henrys Fork of the Snake River. According to Rigby, Wadsworth Brothers Construction won a bid for $4.75 million to replace the structure. The bid covers both the removal of the old bridge and the upcoming construction of the new bridge. The bridge has been out of use for some time now, so no traffic issues or detours are expected to result from its removal. The post No more fun!
