Ivar Paul Havneros | Bonnevile County Jail
IDAHO FALLS — A man was sent to prison Thursday for attacking a woman who held a baby in her arms.
District Judge Joel E. Tingey ordered Ivar Paul Havneros, 39, to spend between two and seven years in prison. Havneros pleaded guilty to felony domestic battery inflicting traumatic injury and felony injury to a child. As part of a plea agreement, a felony attempted strangulation charge was amended to domestic battery, and three felony counts of aggravated assault were dismissed.
In July, the victim told police an angry Havneros lunged at her with scissors, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The victim tried placing the baby into a car seat to leave as Havneros shoved her to the ground and kept attacking.

The victim tried again to place the baby in the car seat, and Havneros knocked it onto its side with the baby inside. The baby started to cry, and Havnerosa threatened the victim with a knife.
The baby ended up back in the victim’s arms, and Havneros grabbed a hammer. The victim said Havneros hit her with the hammer while she shielded the baby with her body.
“There are several marks on the baby, and one is consistent with a drywall hammer,” police wrote in their report.
Havneros drove away from the house after the victim reported going outside and yelling for help. She had a black eye, bleeding lips, a bruise on her neck, and a bruised and swollen eyebrow about the size of a golf ball, according to court documents.
Tingey also ordered Havneros to pay $1,325.50 in fees and fines.
