Shawn Lloyd Jones | Bonneville County Jail IDAHO FALLS — A 38-year-old Idaho Falls man was arrested Thursday after police say he raped a 16-year-old girl while they were playing video games. Shawn Lloyd Jones is charged with felonies for sexual battery of a child committed by lewd or lascivious acts and sexual battery of a minor child. According to court documents, an Idaho Falls Police officer was called to assist with an investigation into a reported rape around 4:50 a.m. on June 15. When officers arrived, a man identified as Jones was in the home, seated in the living room, and the victim, a 16-year-old girl, was in a bedroom with a relative. The victim told police that Jones had sexually assaulted her after she fell asleep on the couch while they were playing video games. She stated that she fell asleep around 1 a.m. and woke up while Jones was raping her. The victim stated that she told Jones she “had to go to the bathroom” and was able to escape before locking herself in the bathroom and calling the reporting party. A forensic interview and SANE exam were done on the victim, where she reportedly reiterated the same story. Police also spoke to a 14-year-old boy who was in the home on the night of the alleged rape. He told police that he was in a bedroom playing online video games with Jones, who was in the living room with the victim. The teenage boy and Jones reportedly had headsets on while playing games. The boy stated he played the games with Jones until about 2:30 a.m. and went to the living room around 2:48 a.m., where he did not see the victim but noticed Jones was smoking outside. He then went to bed and was woken up around 5:40 a.m. by officers. On Dec. 20, officers received the lab results from the SANE exam done on the victim, which reportedly showed “a strong possibility” that DNA from Jones, or a male related to Jones, was found during the exam. A warrant was issued for Jones’ arrest on Feb. 7, and he was booked into the Bonneville County Jail on Feb. 13 on a $500,000 bond. He is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 26. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison. Though Jones has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty. The post Man arrested after allegedly raping teenager while they played video games appeared first on East Idaho News.
