Kyler Miskin | Madison County Jail
SUGAR CITY — Deputies arrested a man last week for an alleged drive-by shooting this summer.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kyler Miskin, 23, for felony unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Isaac Payne. Investigators believe on Aug. 3, Miskin pulled up in a pickup truck and fired several times at a trailer home with several people sleeping inside.
Detectives were called to the trailer park on West 3rd South around 2:20 a.m. after the people inside called 911 to report the shooting, according to an affidavit of probable cause obtained by EastIdahoNews.com. One of the victims said that about an hour earlier, he had awoken to an approaching vehicle.
The man said he looked outside and saw a white Ford F-150 and saw the first muzzle flash. Several shots were fired until the man said he heard a clicking noise. The window of the truck rolled up and the shooter drove away.
Investigators found 13 bullet holes in two trailers on the street. Deputies also gathered seven bullets at the house but could not find any shell casings.

The man told detectives he did not want to point fingers but believed Miskin could be a suspect. Miskin used to live in the house temporarily but had a falling out with the man’s brother. The man also said the shooting could have been by a random person since he is a registered sex offender.
Around 3:45 a.m. deputies pulled Miskin over in a white F-150 pickup matching the description of the truck used in the alleged drive-by, according to court documents. A deputy noted in the probable cause several shell casings littered the cab of the truck and a 9mm Taurus G2C sat wedged on the side of the driver’s seat.
Miskin refused to talk without an attorney and investigators got a search warrant for the truck.
Investigators conducted a test with the gun and compared the casings found in the truck and bullets at the scene of the shooting. On Oct. 19, investigators got the results, matching the bullets found at the shooting to the Taurus handgun.
Payne said deputies spent weeks after the shooting to ensure all their evidence was squared away. The case was submitted to the Madison County Prosecutor’s Office, who filed the charge on Nov. 6. Deputies arrested him three days later.
Although Miskin is charged with a crime it does not necessarily mean he committed it. Everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
If convicted of felony unlawful discharge of a firearm at a dwelling, Miskin could be ordered to spend up to 15-years in prison.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday at the Madison County Courthouse. Miskin posted the $20,000 bail and was released, according to jail records.
