KJ Babcock, the emergency manager for Butte County, tells EastIdahoNews.com it began around 10 a.m. He was unable to provide much information, but says it’s an active law enforcement situation. Idaho State Police, who is assisting Butte County Sheriff’s Office, reports it is a standoff with a man barricaded inside a camper in Butte City. “The individual is believed to be armed and has previously made threats involving law enforcement,” ISP says in a news release. There is also a fire nearby, which is separate from this incident. There is no threat to the public from either of these situations, but a section of U.S. Highway 20/26 is closed as a result. One mile east and west of Butte City from mile marker 251 to 253 is closed until further notice. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to avoid the area until the situation is resolved.
