IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls neighborhood is being evacuated after construction crews hit a gas main in an alleyway between 5th and 6th Streets.
The Idaho Falls Fire Department was called to the 200 block of 5th Street at about 11:40 a.m. after the gas leak was reported, department spokeswoman Kerry Hammon said.
Firefighters were seen going door to door and had evacuated six homes in the area of the leak at about noon.
Hammon says the Intermountain Gas and Idaho Falls Power are on the scene and are working to fix the problem.
Crews expect the area to be blocked off for between three and four hours, Hammon said.
The Idaho Falls Police Department is also on scene to help block off roads and evacuate neighbors.
