According to a news release by the Idaho Falls Fire Department, the fire occurred at a home in the 900 block of East 13th Street. Firefighters got the call around 5:45 p.m. about a fire in the kitchen. The release states that 10 minutes before the kitchen fire call, they got another call about smoke coming out of a chimney on the west side of Idaho Falls. “A structure fire response was subsequently dispatched involving three engines, a ladder truck, two ambulances and a battalion chief,” the release states. No fire was found, but the issue was the resources that were tied up in that call, which later had to be diverted to the fire on 13th Street. Still, “Idaho Falls firefighters were able to respond quickly,” according to the news release. When they arrived at the home, heavy smoke was emanating from the building. Three people had evacuated from the home before the fire crew’s arrival. “This is a real example of why calling 911 when it’s not an emergency could lead to potentially tragic consequences,” IFFD Battalion Chief Rob Hall said in the release. “Had the unfounded 911 call came in even two minutes later, critical resources needed to respond to this real house fire would’ve been unavailable on the other side of town.” The release states three people from the home have been displaced by the fire. The Chaplains of Idaho were called to aid the family.
