Chubbuck man sentenced to probation for pulling gun on neighbor

POCATELLO — A man who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for disturbing the peace will spend one year on probation.
Richard Damien Jacobus, 47, was initially charged with a felony for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. But after reaching a plea agreement with the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office, he pleaded guilty to an amended charge of disturbing the peace.
During a sentencing hearing in April, Magistrate Judge Paul Laggis suspended a sentence of 30 days in jail, instead placing Jacobus on 12 months of probation, court records show.

Jacobus was arrested in September after Chubbuck police received a call reporting a gun crime.
The incident began with an argument during which Jacobus accused his neighbor of stealing something from his truck.
An argument between the two men continued with Jacobus threatening to kill the victim. The victim told police that was when he realized Jacobus had pulled a gun and was aiming it at the victim’s midsection.
In addition to probation, Jacobus has been ordered to pay $695.50 in fees and fines.
