For a team that came into the season with expectations, this is not where the Bengals (9-10, 2-6) expected to be at this point of the year. But there is time to affect change, beginning with a week-long road trip during which they will play games at Eastern Washington, Idaho and Northern Colorado. Following their most recent game, a 66-52 home victory over Portland State, head coach Seton Sobolewski said that the key to carrying the momentum from that win onto the road is all about enthusiasm and preparation. “It falls back on our character,” he said. “We’ve got to stay focused, excited about practice and improving. It’ll be a long stretch — we’re getting ready to see that three games in six days.” En route to the victory over the Vikings, ISU dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle, 46-18. “We want to do that every game,” Sobolewski said. “We want to try to get extra possessions by getting in there, getting our own boards.” Two Bengal women grabbed double-digit rebounds — Piper Carlson and Kacey Spink, with 11 apiece. Both of whom added double-figure scoring. Carlson led all players with 13 points, while Spink scored 12 to go with five assists and two steals. Tasia Jordan added 12, while Sophia Covello chipped in 10. “Our offense is actually better than our defense right now,” Sobolewski said. … “We’re trying to get better on the defensive end.” The Bengals will need to put everything together if they are to put together a run over the final month-plus of the season.
