Bannock County woman faces felony fraud charges

POCATELLO — A woman is facing several felony charges, including exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Rebecca Williamson, 73, has been charged with provider fraud, exploitation of a vulnerable adult and obstruction of an investigation, court documents show.
Because some documents related to the case have been sealed by order of Magistrate Judge Aaron Thompson, details regarding the charges are limited.
What is known is that between May and September 2018, Williamson defrauded the reported victim “by means of willfully false statement” or “by deliberate concealment of fact.” By doing so, records show, Williamson is accused of illegally obtaining compensation through the Idaho Medicaid program.
Additionally, Williamson allegedly “obtained unjust or improper” access to the victim’s power of attorney, funds, property and resources, taking more than $1,000 from the victim.
Finally, in January 2021, Williamson allegedly provided the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit with false information “with intent to mislead an investigation.”
Although Williamson has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.
If she is found guilty, Williamson could face up to 20 years in prison and $125,000 in fines.
She has been served a court summons to appear for an arraignment hearing on Thursday.
