A driver stopped their vehicle on an interstate in Ohio, causing a pileup crash before leaving the scene. | Courtesy Ohio Department of Transportation Facebook page DON’T BE THIS PERSON — Wild footage of a car coming to a complete stop on a busy interstate quickly went viral, serving as a reminder of what not to do when you miss an exit. The video was shared earlier this month on the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Facebook page. In the ODOT’s traffic cam video, cars are seen traveling down Interstate 71. Everything looks like it’s moving smoothly until a red vehicle in the middle lane suddenly comes to a stop and appears to have missed the nearby exit. The vehicle continues to sit there with its right turn signal on as cars pass the vehicle on its left and right. Two vans traveling in that same middle lane come up behind the red vehicle, but are able to slow down in time. However, a third approaching vehicle didn’t stop in time. Footage shows a vehicle crashing into the back of one of the vans, causing a chain reaction, which then hits the van in front of it. As the chaos unfolds, somehow the red vehicle that stopped in the first place appears to suffer hardly any damage to its body. But even more shocking than that? The driver in the red vehicle then casually takes off towards the exit, leaving the scene of the crash in its rearview mirror. “When you are driving along a major interstate and you miss your exit do you: A) keep driving and get off at the next one or B) come to a complete stop, cause a multi-car rear-end crash and then drive away,” ODOT wrote on its Facebook caption. “HINT: The answer is NEVER B. Do not be this driver. Actions like the one in the video are extremely dangerous to yourself and other drivers.” ODOT told Fox8 they heard there were no life-threatening injuries from the pileup, but those involved did suffer bumps and bruises. Their vehicles also sustained extensive damages. As of May 1, FOX 8 had reached out and was waiting to learn from the Columbus Division of Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol if the driver who caused the crash had been identified and whether or not they will face charges.The post You have to see this!
