Will we get snow on Christmas? Here’s what we found out. 

Envato stock image POCATELLO — Will eastern Idaho have fresh snow on Christmas? Potentially. But it’s not looking like a lot.  “The current forecast from Christmas Eve into Christmas morning, we have about half an inch of snow in Idaho Falls. Maybe an inch. Up to Rexburg, a quarter inch to maybe half an inch,” said Andrew McKaughan, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Pocatello.   Check the graphics below by NWS.  McKaughan told EastIdahoNews.com that people could wake up to snow on Christmas morning, but the lower elevations would be too warm to support much of it.  “I think there could be some snow in the air, but we are not going to have a full-fledged snowstorm or anything like that,” he said. “You might get just enough to make the grass look a little white.”  There could also be a rain/snow mix next week.  “High temperatures on Christmas Day are above freezing just about everywhere. It’s not going to be super cold. Thirty-five degrees in Idaho Falls on Christmas Day, 38 degrees for Pocatello, so warmer than normal for this time of year,” McKaughan said. “Normal for this time of year in Idaho Falls is 29 degrees (average high), and Pocatello is 33 degrees.” The high on Christmas in Rexburg is predicted to be 36 degrees, while the high in Blackfoot is predicted to be 37 degrees.  Additionally, NWS noted on social media that Saturday, Dec. 21, will mark the first day of winter.  Click here to look at the latest weather conditions.
