Stock image IDAHO FALLS — Will eastern Idaho get enough snow this year to officially call it a white Christmas? According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, it’s a little warmer than usual – but there’s a pretty good chance there will be at least some snow on the ground. Greg Kaiser, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, tells EastIdahoNews.com a little bit of new snow could fall on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning – but it won’t be anything major. “There’s a pretty good chance in the valley, Pocatello and Idaho Falls to Rexburg,” says Kaiser. “There could be some rain Christmas Eve night, and snow is possible on Christmas day, but it’s under an inch in the valleys.” According to Kaiser, Island Park, Driggs, and the mountain areas will definitely see a white Christmas, and as for the Idaho Falls, Rexburg and Pocatello areas – it depends on your definition. “Technically, the definition is one inch of snow on the ground or greater. So even though we’re going to see snow fall, there’s maybe a little bit better chance in Idaho Falls,” says Kasier. “Mountain areas like Island Park is virtually 100%, but down in the lower elevations, there’s probably under a 50% chance we’ll get an inch of snow, even though we’ll see some snowflakes. But there will be enough to cover the ground for sure.” According to the National Weather Service website, snow is very likely in Pocatello on Christmas Day. There is a 40% chance of snow before 11 a.m. in Idaho Falls, Blackfoot and Rigby, and Rexburg will see a 30% chance. “It doesn’t look like a big event, but it does look like you could see a little bit of snow in a lot of locations on Christmas Eve night,” says Kaiser. The post Will eastern Idaho have a white Christmas?
