T-Shirts Plus says goodbye to mall, hello to new location

As one of the original Pine Ridge Mall stores, it’s a bittersweet goodbye as the crew at T-Shirts Plus packs up and moves to a new location, as the mall awaits demolition. | Courtesy photo. CHUBBUCK — T-Shirts Plus, one of the first stores to open in the Pine Ridge Mall, is also one of the last to leave. But they’re not going out of business. The crew is packing up the heat presses, hangers, and, of course, T-shirts and heading to a new location. Founding owners Stan and Floreen Thyberg of Pocatello are relocating the popular custom apparel shop to 4822 Yellowstone Avenue, across from Smith’s in Chubbuck. The move comes as the Pine Ridge Mall prepares for demolition in June. Originally purchased as a franchise in the early 1980s, T-Shirts Plus eventually became part of the Thybergs’ STL Graphic brand. The shop has long served the community with screen printing, embroidery, photo transfers, custom apparel and accessory designs for area schools, colleges, businesses and events. “We’ve had so many customers from all around the region ask what we’re going to do when the mall closes,” said Floreen. “We’re happy to say we’re starting a new chapter in a new building.” Over the years, T-Shirts Plus changed locations inside the mall to accommodate renovations and shifting space, but remained a constant presence for generations of customers. “We’ve had many outstanding employees over the years, some who put themselves through college working here and have gone on to be very successful,” Floreen said. “We didn’t want to close down. We love our employees, and we love our community.” T-Shirts Plus will officially leave the mall on May 31. Pro-Builders Inc. is remodeling the new store, which is expected to open in June. “Chubbuck is growing. The traffic is great at our new location.” Floreen added. “We invite everyone to come see us in the mall one last time and then visit us at our beautiful new store in June.” The Thybergs also own Idaho Unlimited, another longtime local business that once operated in the Pine Ridge Mall and is now at 215 E Cedar Street. “We’re very excited about this new chapter. We are local and encourage everyone to keep shopping local,” Floreen said.
