Newborn puppies that were abandoned in a dumpster | Courtesy Jeannie Pena Facebook post POCATELLO — Police need your help identifying a suspect who allegedly abandoned puppies in a dumpster. On Saturday, Jan. 4, at 5:45 a.m., a pick-up truck was reportedly seen driving south on Jefferson Avenue near East Alameda Road in Pocatello. At the cross street, the truck turned into the Maverick gas station and parked on the west side of the building. The driver reportedly put a box in the dumpster and then left heading south on Randolph Avenue. According to Lt. Josh Hancock with the Pocatello Police Department, about 10 minutes later, Maverick employees found seven puppies inside the box in the dumpster. Ordinance officers retrieved the puppies and a private individual is currently caring for the puppies. One of the seven puppies has passed away. The truck appears to be a beige or tan Chevy or GMC likely from the 2000s, and has an extended cabin and a dent on the driver’s side rear fender. If the person is found, they face an animal cruelty misdemeanor with up to a $1,000 fine. If you have any information about the incident, call Ordinance Supervisor Tori Eldridge at (208) 234-6187.
