Man threatens to kill woman for rejecting sexual advances, police say

Jeremy David Triplett | Bingham County Jail BLACKFOOT — A 42-year-old man was arrested after he reportedly tried to strangle a woman and threatened her after she declined his sexual advances. Jeremy David Triplett is charged with felonies for attempted strangulation, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and a felony enhancement for the use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. Court documents say on Jan. 24, around 4:10 p.m., Blackfoot Police were sent to a home in regards to a possible domestic violence situation. Dispatch told officers that a woman had called 911, saying that Triplett was “becoming violent.” When officers arrived, a woman answered the door after several attempts of knocking. Police say the woman “was crying, gasping for air as if she could not breathe and was distraught.” The woman told police that Triplett had taken her car and left. Officers say she was “panting and gasping for air,” so they asked her to take a seat on a nearby couch while they called EMS for her. According to police reports, the woman had “red blotches on her neck, behind her ears and on her face,” which officers say is “common when a strangulation has occurred.” Officers also noticed the victim had bruising below both eyes, a swollen upper lip, and red rashes that “appear to be scratch marks on the inside and outside” of her lower right arm. According to the victim, the two had arrived at the home, and Triplett asked the woman for a “sexual favor.” The woman declined, and Triplett reportedly became angry and violent. Triplett allegedly “grabbed some of her clothes and threw them at her and demanded that she put them on so they can drive somewhere.” The victim stated she did not want to go anywhere with him, and Triplett reportedly began slapping her. She told officers that Triplett then grabbed her neck and pulled her by the hair into another room before putting his hands around her neck and attempting to strangle her. The victim says she yelled, “Help me,” and told Triplett, “I can’t breathe,” to which he allegedly replied, “You’re not going to breathe when I kill you b****.” The woman says she was about to lose consciousness, so she kicked and struck Triplett in the groin area, causing him to let go of her so she could run into the living room. Triplett reportedly followed her, continuing to throw clothes at her and demanding she “get ready so they can go for a drive.” The victim told police he did not say where he was going to take her. Triplett then allegedly went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife before returning to the living room and telling her to “get into the car, or he would slit her throat and kill her.” The woman says she “walked out of the front door and immediately got into the fetal position.” Triplett then grabbed her arm and tried to drag her back into the home but was unable. He then grabbed the woman’s car keys and left the house in her car. At that point, the woman ran inside, locked the door, and called 911. The woman was taken to Bingham Memorial Hospital due to her injuries, and officers attempted to find Triplett but were not successful at that time. Officers later met with her at the hospital, where she stated she “was afraid (Triplett) was going to kill her.” Triplett was later found, arrested and booked into the Bingham County Jail on Jan. 27 on a $100,000 bond. Court documents do not include his side of the story. He is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 6. If convicted, Triplett could face up to 35 years in prison. Though Triplett has been charged with these crimes, this does not necessarily mean he committed them.
