Man accused of driving drunk with minor, running from police and crashing near cemetery

Brigham Ricks Frost | Bonneville County Jail IDAHO FALLS — A Shelley man was arrested Sunday night after deputies say he was driving drunk and smoking marijuana with a minor before crashing near a local cemetery. Brigham Ricks Frost, 20, is charged with felonies for eluding an officer, leaving the scene of an injury crash, and injury to a child. He was also arrested for misdemeanor DUI and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. According to a news release from the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, a deputy was driving on Sunnyside Road when a car with two occupants sped past. The deputy activated his emergency lights to attempt a traffic stop, reaching speeds above 70 mph, but the suspect’s car continued speeding eastbound, running the red light at Ammon Road and Sunnyside Road. “For safety reasons, the deputy discontinued the pursuit and advised area patrol units the last known direction of travel,” says the release. The deputy reportedly checked the area near the Ammon Cemetery on East Sunnyside Road, finding the suspect car had “lost control negotiating a curve and crashed.” Both occupants had run from the scene, but arriving deputies quickly located a juvenile who was the passenger in the car. Deputies say both the juvenile and the driver, identified as Frost, had been drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana. A short while later, deputies reportedly found Frost in the area of the crash and he was taken into custody. Deputies say they found approximately 30 grams of marijuana inside the crashed car. The juvenile reportedly suffered minor injuries and was checked by Idaho Falls Ambulance personnel at the scene before being released to parents. Frost suffered minor injuries and was transported to Idaho Falls Community Hospital for a medical clearance and to collect blood evidence for a DUI investigation. He was then taken to the Bonneville County Jail, where he was booked on an unknown bond. Court hearings have not yet been scheduled for Frost. If convicted, he could face up to 19 and a half years in prison. Though Frost has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them.
