The concert will happen tonight, Tuesday, October 21 at 7 p.m. at the Madison High School Performing Arts Center at 2300 University Boulevard, Rexburg. Admission is free, but donations are welcome, which will go toward funding the students’ competition in Orlando, Florida, in March. “We have invited several special guests to be part of the final piece, which is ‘The Carnival of the Animals,’” says director Doug Hansen. “It is a really kid-friendly, fun piece that features two pianists as soloists, a narrator, a flute and clarinet solo, and lots of fun music that features the different sections of the orchestra.” The piece will be narrated by BYU-Idaho Radio’s Brandon Isle. Brothers Tim McKay and Ty McKay, who are both studying piano performance at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, will be the featured piano soloists. They’ll be joined by Megan Felt on the clarinet and Dr. Gabriella Roderer on the flute, who both perform with the Idaho Falls Symphony. Each of the soloists graduated from Madison High School, and Hansen is excited to have them back on the Madison High School stage. There are currently over 650 students in the Madison School District orchestra program, ranging from 5th to 12th grade. Tuesday’s concert will feature the 9th through 12th-grade orchestras. “It is our hope that students receive a high-quality, fun educational experience that provides a solid foundation and a love for music so they may become lifelong musicians,” Hansen says.
