It’s opening inside Gold’s Gym at 2363 Eagle Drive on August 5. Kyla Danos and her husband, Josh, are the franchise owners. Kyla tells EastIdahoNews.com the Gold’s Gym location is the first one in Idaho and will offer year-round lessons to anyone three months of age or older. “It’s really focused on water safety and drowning prevention, survival swimming,” Kyla says. “Before they even learn any strokes, they just learn — if you were to fall in the water, what do you do?” The school can accommodate all skill levels and has programs for adults and people with special needs. The Danos’ are teachers by profession, but Josh frequently participates in triathlons, where swimming is part of the competition. As a result, he’s spent a lot of time at the pool. Their son, who is 4, learned to swim at a young age because of that. “We always got comments like, ‘Oh my gosh! I’ve never seen a kid so young swim like that!’ It wasn’t that big of a deal to me,” Kyla says. When they learned about the curriculum offered at British Swim School, they decided to open one in eastern Idaho. “We thought it would be a really good fit for our community with all the kids we have. There’s so much water. We’re always seeing kids swimming in the canals and out on the boats on the river. It just seems like something that’s really important here,” says Kyla. For parents who have fears about their child drowning in the water, Kyla offers some advice. “That worry can be completely eliminated with just a little bit of commitment. It really doesn’t take much for them to be water safe,” she says. She and her husband are excited to get the school up and running. They’re out and about in the community trying to spread the word at various community events. They’ll be at Ammon Days on August 1-3 at McCowin Park.
