IDAHO FALLS – Extreme cold weather shattered records across eastern Idaho Monday, with bone-chilling temperatures reported in Rexburg, Idaho Falls, Pocatello, Stanley and Challis.
While many places were dozens of degrees below zero, just wait a few days and you’ll see quite a warm-up. The National Weather Service is reporting afternoon high temperatures on Friday will be anywhere from 40 to 75 degrees WARMER than air temperatures currently are now.
Here’s a look at how cold it’s been (before windchill) in the last 24 hours:
Idaho Falls
Coldest temp overnight: -30 degrees
(The coldest temp. since 2009 and also sets a new record low temperature for Jan. 30.)
Pocatello
Coldest temp overnight: -16 degrees
(The coldest temp since 2017)
Rigby
Coldest temp overnight: -35 degrees
Rexburg
Coldest temp overnight: -26 degrees
(The coldest temp since records began in 1998)
Island Park
Coldest temp overnight: -38 degrees
Shelley
Coldest temp overnight: -28 degrees
Blackfoot
Coldest temp overnight: -23 degrees
Driggs
Coldest temp overnight: -31 degrees
Stanley
Coldest temp overnight: -36 degrees

Challis
Coldest temp overnight: -27 degrees

St. Anthony
Coldest temp overnight: -37 degrees
