Crews begin construction on new Maverik truck stop in Pocatello

POCATELLO – Construction is underway on a new Maverik truck stop in Pocatello.
Crews began pouring the foundation for the 5,600-square-foot building several weeks ago in the site formerly occupied by Prime Time Auctions at 3400 South 5th Avenue right off Interstate 15.
Lance Dunkley, vice president of real estate and construction for Maverik, tells EastIdahoNews.com the project is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter in 2021.
“Maverik is fond of Pocatello and wants to … give back to the community that has served it well,” Dunkley says.
An exact opening date has not been determined and Dunkley says health restrictions will dictate whether a grand opening will occur.
“While Maverik would love to celebrate a grand opening with its fans in Pocatello, a grand opening celebration will be subject to COVID-19 restrictions,” says Dunkley.

The new store will feature one of Maverik’s larger store formats and offer separate fueling stations for commercial vehicles and the general public. Made-to-order food services will be a focal point at the new location with a variety of breakfast and grab-and-go lunch options. Some of those items will include tacos, gourmet burritos and quesadillas.
Panoramic landscape photos of Idaho’s surrounding environment will adorn the store’s walls and televisions will be in the soda fountain dispensers.
Dunkley says the new Maverik has been several years in the making and this particular spot proved to be an ideal location for the state’s 64th store.
“Maverik looks forward to serving customers off the I-15 freeway given its close proximity to the store,” he says.
Maverik has a longstanding 46-year history in Idaho and opened its first store in 1974.

The Pocatello location will be the third new Maverik in eastern Idaho in the last several years. An Idaho Falls store opened on Sunnyside Road in 2017. A Rigby store opened on State Street in 2018.
More details will be forthcoming as the opening date gets closer. In the meantime, Dunkley says the company is looking forward to serving customers in Pocatello.
“(We) want to reinvest in a community that’s been great to Maverik over the years,” says Dunkley.
