Brian Artjoms Grimes | Bonneville County Jail IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man has been charged after he allegedly stole an SUV, was cited for not having a driver’s license and crashed it later that day. Brian Artjoms Grimes, 19, was charged with felony burglary, felony grand theft and misdemeanor petty theft. If Grimes is found guilty, he could face up to 25 years in prison. According to court documents, on March 27, around 9:30 a.m., an Idaho Falls Police officer was dispatched to a home after a woman reported her 2010 Chevrolet HHR stolen. The woman’s son told her that he had parked the car outside in the driveway and left the keys inside the vehicle, unlocked. The woman told the officer that after the family noticed the car missing, she checked her Ring doorbell camera and saw a man dressed in dark clothing in the driveway around 12:50 a.m. A different officer on patrol that night had conducted a traffic stop on the Chevrolet around 1 a.m. and identified the driver as Grimes. Grimes was cited for failing to purchase a driver’s license and released. The vehicle was not reported stolen at that time. After the woman finished speaking with the officer, the vehicle was reported stolen to the National Crime Information Center. The document states that two officers with the Idaho Falls Police Department visited Grimes’ home and spoke with his brother. The brother allowed the officers to search the home for Grimes, but they did not find him. The woman messaged the officers that a friend had spotted a vehicle matching the stolen Chevrolet crashed in a burrow pit on the 7000 block of East Sunnyside Road. Deputies with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office found it, and Idaho Falls Police officers searched it. No one was inside the vehicle, and an officer noticed fingerprints on the exterior driver’s door, from which they took four fingerprints. The document states the officers found a vape and a knife that was left open and took the steering wheel cover off to process later for fingerprints. An officer spotted Grimes’ citation, which he had been given earlier that day, between the driver’s side door and the seat. The Chevrolet sustained damage to its front bumper, right front wheel and undercarriage. The document states that a basic 2010 Chevrolet HHR on Kelley Blue Book costs around $2,700. The woman told officers that her son’s Chromebook and AirPods were inside the vehicle, but upon further searching, both were missing. The two items, which had a total value of $370, were reported stolen. Grimes is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Judge Tawyna Rawlings at 1 p.m. on May 9. Though Grimes has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty. The post Man’s traffic ticket found in SUV he allegedly stole and crashed appeared first on East Idaho News.
